Flicx Match Pitch

How  long have they had a Flicx Pitch?

3 weeks

Do they use it for Match/Practice?

Practice at the moment, Match later on

Is it down for the cricket season or rolled up after every game?

Rolled up – but is aware that you can leave them down for the grass to grow through.  They split it into 2, they have a practicing team on the square and another elsewhere on the pitch.

How has it benefited the game of cricket at school/club level?

They use the Flicx pitch in conjuction with a Mobile Net, and with the consistent bounce it makes it easier for the bowlers to aim at the stumps, and it also gives the batsman confidence.

What age group do they use if for?

Under 11-15 year olds

Would they recommend it to other schools/cricket clubs?

Yes

Quote

By using the Flicx Pitches they have found it easier to coach, and you can keep a better eye on the boys, so in fact you need less people to coach.  The club usually has 50 or more boys on a coaching night.

The Flicx pitch has been purchased with the help of a Sports Aid Grant, and it was a toss up between a bowling machine and a Flicx Pitch.

Feels may need stronger straps on the Carry Cradle as starting to fray slightly already.

Addington Village Cricket Club

Addington Village Cricket Club is currently the only cricket club in Kent with Sport England’s Club Mark status as a “Safe, Effective and Child Friendly Club” which includes  the criteria to demonstrate a track record for delivering cricket to the community, linking  with local schools and supporting other clubs in the District to provide opportunities to play cricket.

As the Cricket Development Officer (CDO) for Tonbridge and Malling, Peter Robinson is always looking for new ideas to develop youth cricket so when he heard of the ECB initiative ‘Improving Our Services Scheme that was supported by NatWest, which involved the funding of a Flicx Pitch™, he knew straight away that this would provide him with another cricket playing facility at Addington Cricket Club.

The Flicx Pitch, is a unique plastic cricket pitch that has been designed to extend the game of cricket by converting cricket outfields, soccer, rugby and hockey pitches into facilities that can support cricket during the summer season. It can be used as an additional pitch for junior matches and coaching or, alternatively, can be split into 2  extra net batting ends  for juniors and seniors. With it’s consistent levels of performance assisting both batsmen and bowlers to play with confidence The Flicx Pitch can be used as a training aid or for match play.

Addington Cricket Club has used the Flicx Pitch for over 2 seasons and is a valuable asset to the coaching of it’s 10 –14 year olds players and is also used by Kent U11 Girls Cricket Team as a practice facility and as an pitch for school or club cricket festivals.
The Flicx Pitch at Addington is set in the outfield permanently, and it is prepared like a normal fine turf cricket pitch and it is used from April though to October.

Addington Cricket Club has over 150 members of all ages, and it is not only the younger generation that take advantage of the Flicx Pitch - a portable net cage is moved over the pitch to turn it into a practice facility for the club adults.

With so many keen young cricketers at Addington, there are invariably 3 or 4 practice sessions going on at anyone time and Peter Robinson firmly believes that the Flicx pitch is invaluable for developing young cricketers who have been using softball to progress quickly when starting to use hardball.

Peter says, “ I regard the Flicx Pitch as a tremendous invention, it is not only a cost-effective cricket pitch, it assists young players to progress when starting to play hard ball cricket, as its surface provides a good consistent bounce for both bowlers and batsmen alike which builds confidence and therefore inspires these young players to keep playing”.

Peter is constantly amazed at the enquires he receives, from mothers in particular, who would like their sons to learn to play cricket, even though there is no history of father or grandfather playing the game.  It is, Peter believes, because mothers look upon cricket and the whole ethos of cricket, as being a foundation from where their sons can learn and gain many of the lifestyle qualities and behaviours  that will stand them in good stead for the future.

Flicx assists youth club cricket

Mick Knobbs is not only the Chairman of Cattistock Cricket Club but he is also it’s youth coach to an ever increasing youth section of under 11’s to 15 year olds, mainly boys but also girls.

As the Cattistock cricket pitch is too small for coaching practice, Mick has found that by using a Flicx™ portable cricket pitch, it enables him to make use of the whole cricket ground for coaching practice, as one of the advantages of a Flicx pitch is that you can lay it down anywhere on a flat surface which then can be transformed into a bowling or batting area.

A single Flicx pitch can easily be split into two to create two practice or coaching batting ends, at Cattistock they actually split it into three, two thirds of the Flicx pitch is laid out in front of the two permanent cricket nets, and one third is used anywhere on the ground to produce a third small wicket.

Where the two Flicx pitches are used for net practice, the cricket grounds-man leaves the grass to grow through it, which is then rolled and cut to create a turf effect.  This is turn produces a hard base, which provides a consistent bounce assisting both the young batsmen and bowlers to play with confidence.  The ECB have endorsed the use of Flicx pitches to be used in this way.

The Flicx pitches and nets are used by the whole club between the end of April and August, with the nets being used all Winter by the boys for coaching and net practice.

Mick believes that a Flicx pitch is a cost-effective alternative to installing a very expensive all weather artificial surface and says, “A Flicx pitch with the turf effect, plays as good or even better than an artificial pitch”.

As Cattistock Cricket Club is a village club, the upkeep and maintenance has to be kept to a minimum, and that is another advantage of a Flicx pitch over proper grass nets as there is a lot les work involved in keeping them to the required standard.

Through the Sport England Community Projects Fund approx 12 other cricket clubs within the Dorset area have Flicx pitches, and this is also extending to schools whose existing school sports fields are being squeezed for space and therefore have to convert them also into cricket fields.

In order to facilitate coaching Flicx also manufacturer the Flicx Skills & Coaching Pitches that are multi-coloured with fully incorporated creases. They have been designed by top cricket authorities and coaches to assist young cricketers to develop their game. The simple variation in colours, allows for basic coaching techniques to be used in either match or practice situations. The Flicx Skills and Coaching Pitches can also simply be split in two, to create extra practice facilities.

For easy and safe handling of any Flicx Pitch, the unique Flicx carry cradle makes it easy to manoeuvre for one person.

The range of Flicx pitches are eligible for Grant Aid funding and there are several options available.  For further information on grant funding opportunities contact Flicx. Tel: 01295 816 765 or email: flickuk@flicx.com

Ebberston Cricket Club

Ebberston village has only 1500 residents, but it has had a local village cricket team since 1911 and in the village archives it mentions in 1866 there was a cricket game played between Ebberston and Foxholes.  Nowadays the senior members of Ebberston Cricket Club play in the Readers Beckett League (1st Team) and the Derwent Valley League (2nd team).

Last year in order to add an extra practice facility at the club; they invested, through the ECB/NatWest initiative ‘Improving Our Services Scheme’ and with the assistance of Ian Powell, Yorkshire Cricket Board Development Officer in a Flicx Match Pitch.  The Flicx Pitch is laid out off the outfield and used with a mobile cricket net for junior and senior batting practice.

The Flicx Pitch at Ebberston Cricket Club is treated like a turf pitch, Ashley Winspear who as part of the Scarborough Cricket Area Development Group firmly endorses the Flicx Pitch.  He says, “I believe that the Flicx Pitch mirrors a plain grass surface, and the batting and bowling techniques that you teach on a Flicx Pitch, replicate this when they are played on a grass wicket as the players do not have to alter their technique, which is an ideal preparation”.

With Ebberston only being a small community, this also reflects in the number of Junior club members it attracts, and therefore it runs one Junior team of U15’s which is a mixture of girls and boys between the ages of 8-14 years of age, approx 20 in total, and as Ashley comments, “I wish we could attract more Junior players, then I can stop playing for the club!”

A junior practice night attracts around 15 young players, and this was too many to use the existing practice facility, hence the reason why the Flicx pitch has been so useful.  With the Flicx Pitch these young players can play forwards and backwards and with the consistent bounce it takes away the uncertainty that playing on an uneven pitch can bring.  The Flicx Pitch also assists these young players with their bowling skills and one senior cricketer at the club finds the Flicx Pitch receptive to spin bowling.

The Cricket Club maintains links with other local clubs, who often come and use the Flicx Pitch. Snainton Cricket Club is one of those clubs and is situated opposite Snainton Primary School, and they encourage the staff at the school to visit Ebberston with a group of children and play cricket on the Flicx Pitch in a bid to encourage and develop their interest in the game.

Ashley coaches cricket on an ad hoc basis at St.Martin’s School who also have a Flicx Pitch and are always singing it’s praises, as Ashley himself says, “I would recommend a Flicx Pitch to any school or cricket club”.

Euxton Cricket Club

Euxton Cricket Club, situated at Balshaw Park in Lancashire is one of the 799 schools and cricket clubs throughout the U.K. that was able through the ECB/NatWest project ‘Improving our Services Scheme’ to purchase a Flicx Match Pitch at a reduced cost.

The Cricket Club has been using the Flicx Pitch since last year and is according to Mike Waterhouse, ‘an invaluable and multipurpose asset to the club’.

At Euxton, the Flicx Pitch has been used as a coaching and practicing facility for a junior cricket Summer school for 9-11year olds, it is used for 6 aside cricket matches, for visually impaired cricketers, Kwik cricket matches for 8-10year olds and the junior members of the club use it on a regular basis for their cricket practice.

Mike has been particularly impressed with the consistent bounce that the Flicx Pitch throws up and because of this, they have found it a very good surface to use with a bowling machine.

The Flicx Pitch is not only used by the young members using softball, it is also used by the clubs senior cricketers for hardball practice, and the club has several cricket coaches who are coaching at different levels, and they are all in agreement that the concept of a Flicx Pitch is excellent.

At Euxton they choose not to leave the Flicx Pitch down permanently, so they have the option of moving it around the ground on a regular basis, and also using it on the square, therefore saving the pitch - it was when the Flicx Pitch has to be rolled up and put away in the clubhouse that Mike finds himself without willing volunteers – but as he says, “It is a small price to pay for a cricketing facility that is an indispensable benefit to our club”.

FLICX  BOWLING MACHINE ASSISTS

YOUNG CRICKETER TO HIS MADIEN CENTURY

Ross McInley (11) scored his maiden century for Cateram School when they recently played Worth in an U12’s school cricket match.

Ross along with his brother Harry, are enthusiastic cricketers, and both belong to the Reigate Priory Cricket Club, one of Surrey’s premier cricket clubs where they receive coaching from professional cricket coaches at the club.

They are also able to practice at home, where there is prepared surface and a cricket net, but in order to improve their batting skills, the boy’s father Philip looked into the advantages of a bowling machine, and contacted Keith Cartwright, National Sales Manager for Flicx UK, who recommended a FLICX bowling machine, which would allow Ross and Harry the quality practice needed to develop their batting techniques through it’s consistent speed and bounce.

Philip McInley, father of Ross, firmly believes that the Flicx bowling machine has already made a huge difference to his son’s batting technique and says, “Ross is able to practice a full range of shots at differing speeds that has helped him with timing and shape. Quite quickly the feet movements have become instinctive”.

Ross himself says, “Within a few sessions of using the Flicx bowling machine, it has increased my confidence when batting, which in turn helped towards achieving my maiden century, which was so exciting”.

There is no doubt that the name Ross McInley, 113 not out, will not be a one off.

What the Schools say about Flicx

It gives me great pleasure to record our thanks for the recommendation of the above cricket mat. The cricket mat has been as asset to us as it has enabled us to immediately play home games at school.

The boys and coaches have found the mat to provide true playing conditions. We have now lifted the mat in order to prepare the field for the rugby season.

Thank you for providing the answer to a problem which we have experienced for years.

R.J. De Beer (MS), Principal
Sir John Adamson High School

top>

My Junior cricketers (<15 years) have been playing off your Flicx Cricket Mats for the past 18 months – and have enjoyed more games each season than have been previously possible. This is because we can easily convert the rugby fields into cricket fields for the summer – and back again into rugby fields for the winter. Naturally, more cricket meant better cricket.

The Flicx Cricket Mat facilitates good cricket techniques, offering true, regular bounce, good spin and seam, and gives batsmen the confidence to play off the front foot.

Our school has also benefitted from your cricket mats: they are easy to use – because of their portability and durability we literally just roll out the mats and play. In addition, maintenance and pitch preparation are both low cost.

Thanks to the Flicx Cricket Mats, our cricketers are playing much more cricket, and are ready for the season earlier than their opposition.

With me playing and coaching I am well aware of the space required to coach five teams simultaneously. We were faced with the problem that although we had the fields, we needed pitches installed to accommodate the number of teams.

We ordered two Flicx pitches, which I found easy to lay and remove (totally portable). The system works similar to that of a jigsaw and therefore has the advantage of allowing sections to be replaced, rather than the whole mat. Once the base of the mat is level i.e. sand, concrete, grass the ball gives a true bounce off the mat.

I do recommend this matting system for the cricketing enthusiast.

We have bought three plastic pitches from Flicx

We have found them very useful as we lay them on ordinary kikuyu grass on our main rugby field. We are able to get every bounce and at the same time the grass can grow through them and they leave no pitch mark on the rugby field after cricket season.

The other thing I found ideal was that we could lay them down on the outfield of a big cricket field and have three or four games running at the same time for the younger players.

Terry O’Mahony, Master in charge of Cricket
St John’s Preparatory School

top>

The school has invested in two Flicx plastic pitches which we have found to be well suited for our needs, particularly for our junior players. These pitches have also allowed us to make better use of our fields in that they can be laid on the grass of our rugby fields.

Initially after laying, the ball was inclined to keep a little low or even be variable in bounce, but this is probably due to the surface on which it is placed . Once the grass has come through and stabilised the pitch, the bounce evens out. This uneven bounce did help the boys to watch the ball more closely and we found it appeared to help them play with a straighter bat.

A further point was that maintenance was cut to almost nothing. However, if the pitches are used regularly, as ours are, we found it advisable to move them every two or three weeks to preserve the grass around the delivery areas.

In the coming season we will have these pitches on the outfield either side of our main turf wicket which will enable us to provide for more teams and save wear and tear on our main pitch.

Nets.

We have three nets mats which we have found to be very useful indeed. Because they are on cement the bounce is inclined to be a bit high especially from some of the slow bowlers who give the ball a little more air.

We have been advised to put these on a prepared gravel base but this is an expense which we cannot cover at the moment. This apparently will give better bounce.

The area on the mats for bowlers to aim for is a great help to encourage small boys to try and bowl accurately. A further help is that we can put down markers for batsmen to encourage them to get their feet in the right place.

We are also going to experiment in the coming season, by drawing “stump lines” down the pitch to help bowlers and batsmen to be able to pick up the line of the stumps.

All this is possible because of the construction of the mats. We have found the product most useful and are happy to recommend it fully.

K. Gibbs, King Edward VII Preparatory School

I would like to place on record our satisfaction with the surface placed on the concrete floor of our Basketball court. The plastic surface has proved durable with indoor hockey, basketball and dancing. We have also, on numerous occasions, had metal legged chairs on the surface when we hold our Prize Giving ceremony and when our pupils write their June and December examinations in this venue.

We would be happy to recommend this surface to anyone who is in doubt about its application.

I purchased on behalf of my school, a Flicx Pitch at the end of 1999. The result of this purchase has been outstanding to say the very least.

We now play more cricket than ever before and on a ‘constant’ pitch. We practice and coach “in the middle”, a more beneficial team practice than nets can provide. We can play when grass or astro pitches are still wet due to rain.

We are not concerned about damage during hockey and soccer season as the pitch is safely packed away. Maintenance is easy and minimal. The pitch is moved with ease to prevent ‘run-up’ tracks, assisting our bowlers.

The back-up service from Ashley Appleby of CFS Sportsfloors has been prompt, polite, patient and thorough. An absolute joy to work with this company.

I strongly recommend the purchase of a Flicx Pitch

Would recommend it to other schools, it is a very useful piece of equipment and are pleased with it.

The reason a NatWest/Flicx Pitch was purchased

The area the school wanted to use as a cricket pitch was unsuitable, in fact it could hardly be described as a cricket pitch as the bounce was so uneven.

Hopton Mills Cricket Club

Hopton Mill Cricket Club may be out in the sticks, but they possess a very strong junior membership of approx 80 boys aged between 9 – 17 years of age.  And it was the sheer volume of juniors that posed a few problems for Chris Jones, Junior Development coach at Hopton Mills, as they didn’t have enough practice facilities to satisfy the demand, and consequently the cricket square was becoming damaged through overuse and not fit for match cricket, which could have led to the club being fined by the Central Yorkshire league, which Hopton Mills is a member of.

This led to Chris contacting Ian Powell, Development Officer at Yorkshire Cricket Board who was instrumental in assisting with the funding to purchase four Flicx Cricket Pitches through the ECB/NatWest initiative ‘Improving Our Services Scheme.

The Flicx™ Pitch is a unique plastic cricket pitch that has been designed to extend the game of cricket as it can be rolled out anywhere, instantly providing a cricket pitch. At Hopton Mills two of the Flicx pitches are down permanently, one each end of the square, and are treated as turf pitches, by allowing the grass to grow through and then rolling and cutting it when required.  Both junior and senior cricketers use these two pitches for cricket practice, with a portable cage being placed over each pitch.

The two other Flicx pitches are brought and rolled out when required, and are mainly used by the U 9’s for batting practice, using a softball, but also have been used for an U9’s cricket match.

Chris Jones fully endorses the benefits of the Flicx pitch and says, “The club has benefited enormously from having the Flicx pitches – quite simply, we would not be able to train without them”.

Besides the benefits to the club itself, Chris also says, “ The Flix pitch is tremendous as a coaching facility, especially when the younger cricketers start playing hardball cricket, as the bounce comes up at a consistent level, and therefore it is easier to improve the technique of the bowler and the way the ball comes to the batsman”.

Hopton Mills maintains strong links with the local schools in the area, most who have a large majority of Asian pupils, hosting inter-school cricket matches, and Chris himself is often contacted by the schools to arrange a training session at the school for interested cricketers, who he finds are then keen to join the cricket club and it is from these training sessions that twelve Asian pupils have now joined the cricket club. The local football club also points young football players who are also interested in cricket in the direction the cricket club.

This is the first season that the Flicx pitches have been used, and it has made the life of the clubs grounds man a lot easier, as they require so little maintenance, and as the square is now only used for matches, this means he is not having to constantly ‘repair’ it, only to ‘look after’ it.

With the Flicx Pitch being is plastic, it can sometimes become a little slippery when it has been raining and the grass hasn’t yet grown through it, but as Chris says, “The advantages and benefits of using the Flicx Pitch totally outweighs this, and the cricketers understand that they just have to make their run up a little slower”.

What the Boards say about Flicx

The United Cricket Board of South Africa believes that Development Cricket in our country has benefited greatly from Flicx Sports floors making Cricket Mats affordable and practical to more young cricketers.

Schools, particularly, have been able to extend their range of sports for children as a result of the Cricket Mat’s versatility that allows the same cricket field to be used for winter sports while the Flicx Cricket Mat is stored until summer.

Cricket training and team selection can also be initiated earlier in the season without the necessary and expensive pitch preparation.

In developing areas, the Cricket Mat has brought cricket to the previously disadvantaged communities, thus providing us with a base to shape the cricketers of our future.

The United Cricket Board recognises your contribution to South African Cricket and wishes you well for your venture in the international market. We have no doubt that other developing countries can benefit greatly from Flicx Cricket Mats.

In my position as Coaching and Development Manager for Tasmanian Cricket, I feel I must thank you for introducing us to the Flicx Cricket Pitch. It was particularly useful or the lunch-time entertainment game on the Bellerive Oval during the famous second  est between Australia and Pakistan in December 1999. It meant that the outfield could be safely used at lunch time, and that when the entertainment game was over, it was simple to roll up the Flicx pitch and move it off the field.

Our sponsor, Milo, also benefited from valuable exposure of their logo on the Flicx pitch. In addition, the promotional nature of the Flicx pitch that facilitates sponsor logos makes it extremely attractive for sponsors to become involved in the development of cricket. From our point of view when approaching sponsors for support, we can offer them added benefit in the branding of the actual pitch – wherever the game is played.

Our experience with this unique Flicx pitch has been that it is easy to use and demands low maintenance.

The cricketers themselves have been impressed with the true bounce of the pitch and the fact that all bowlers can be confident of their delivery, from spin to seam. From a development point of view, young cricketers (especially bowlers) can be coached in correct techniques – and the true bounce means that their game is predictable and will hold their interest. We have found that the Flicx pitch is equally suitable for both soft and hard balls.

We look forward to extending the use of the Flicx cricket pitch in our development programme.

Bruce Cruse, ECB Facilities Development Manager

“The Flicx Pitch has been well received by the cricketing community and continues to establish itself as a valuable addition to the facility stock options on club and school sites. The ECB is pleased to have contributed to the installation of 799 Flicx Pitch sites over the past two years and is encouraged by the enthusiasm of club's testimonies to the products value in practical terms. I have little doubt that the Flicx Pitch will continue to provide the option of flexible playing opportunities to enhance cricket development in the most demanding of environments”.

August 2003

Ian Powell, Cricket Development Manager – Yorkshire Cricket Board East :

Ian has been instrumental in deploying 60 Flicx Pitches in the Yorkshire area as part of the  ‘Improving Our Surfaces’ initiative, firmly believes the Flicx Pitch enhances cricket development within clubs and schools.  He also believes that the deployment of Flicx Pitches through this initiative is best done through the County Cricket Boards, as they are able to identify the more specific areas where the Flicx Pitch will be most beneficial.

June 2003

Keith Pont, England and Wales Cricket Board -   Director of Development and ex Essex County Player

“The Flicx Pitch has revolutionised access to the game for young boys and girls across England and Wales.   Cricket is now possible in limited spaces such as school laygrounds, local parks and leisure centres where, before, it could not have been played without designated pitch areas.  In addition, it allows additional training facilities at clubs and for pre-season games”.

Pont commented further, “More girls and boys are playing Cricket than ever before and Flicx pitches have a significant impact on the fun and skills children get from the game”.

Firstly let me thank you for all your assistance during the Rand Easter Show.

Your product is really remarkable, we used it on a concrete surface at the show, the bounce was fine and even after intensive use we found no wear and tear.

I must also add that it serves us well in our underprivileged areas. It is easy to lay and we are currently using our product on existing soccer fields. It really enables us to take cricket to where it has never been played before.

I would also like to take this opportunity to wish you everything of the best with your company.

Thank you for introducing the ICC to the Flicx Cricket Pitches at the Development meeting in Kenya last August. In our experience of development cricket, the Flicx Cricket Pitch is ideal for introductory level cricket in countries that do not have existing pitches or the skills and manpower to develop pitches.

Because the Flicx Cricket Pitch easily converts any existing sports field into a cricket playing ground – with a proper cricket pitch – it makes multiple use of limited sports grounds at minimum cost. I personally see it as a viable and affordable option for development cricket in all cricketing countries around the world.

The concept of portable cricket by taking the game to the people with portable bowling machines, modular nets and the Flicx Cricket Pitch will go a long way to establishing grass roots cricket around the world.

We look forward to working with you and your Flicx portable cricket facilities in the Development of Cricket

What our Other Customers say about Flicx

The recent inclusion of the Flicx Cricket Mat into our sports equipment range has been a great success.

We have been able to meet the needs of the increasing popularity of cricket- particularly amongst Developing Communities and schools with limited budgets. The Flicx Cricket Mat has proved both affordable and practical.

The Flicx cricket mat is reasonably priced and this has meant that our customers can offer their cricketers facilities at almost half the cost of laying concrete and artificially surfaced pitch. In addition, schools with limited grounds are also able to offer their students a greater variety of sport on the same field as the Flicx Cricket Mat can be rolled up and packed away for the soccer, hockey and rugby season.

Thank you for giving Kingsmead Direct the opportunity to represent the Flicx Cricket Mat – it has positively extended our services and product versatility to our customers. We also appreciate your timely meeting of the increasing demand we have for the Flicx Cricket Mat.

In 1997 we needed to rebuild the concrete tennis courts at our Resort. After much research we settled on the Lokflor method which was recommended by West Ridge Tennis Stadium, Durban.

This method proved to be much cheaper than digging up the courts and relaying them, was definitely less hassle and cancelled out the disturbance and mess caused by construction.

Comment:

Transport to the site was difficult and dressing materials were non existent for rebuilding.

Lokflor construction on the existing concrete court was very quick and immediate, with no delay in curing and looked very good. It looks like a new court all the time.

We did have assistance in laying the court. This is essential.

The surface can move slightly, but this can, possibly, be rectified by strategically placing anchor pins.

There is a build up of static, which will be reduced by using earth spikes.

Courts are not as hot to play on in summer.

Tennis balls last much longer.

It is easy to replace only the damaged sections, should there be any.

Our guests have commented that, although the surface takes a bit of getting used to, it is quite comfortable to play on and most have been impressed by the novelty of the system. We have not noticed people deliberately move off the Flicx onto the remaining hard court.

On the whole we have been happy with the  Flicx method.

What the Coaches say about Crazy Catch

Harrow School invested in three Crazy Catches two seasons ago and have made them available to our cricketers throughout the summer and in the winter months.

They are made available on the fields each match day and are utilised by both the Harrow cricketers and their opponents mainly whilst their respective teams are batting but also as a warm up tool for fielders.

A series of one minute catching challenges has added a competitive edge to their usage during the during the winter training months. I believe that hand/eye coordination skills and reflexes have been sharpened as a result of many hours of enjoyment.

For the first time this winter, the first team squad have worked with the world famous Dr Sherylle Calder who endorses the Crazy Catch. We are looking forward to seeing exciting results this summer as players’ visual skills improve.

What the Coaches say about Crazy Ball

The school season is hectic as the players will testify. Seventeen matches in just eleven weeks sandwiched between examinations and normal school life is a big ask for young aspiring cricketers. Coaches too need to keep training sessions fresh and challenging. Endless nets can become counter productive after a while.

This is where Crazy Ball comes in. A game of pace and skill which enhances throwing and catching skills whilst ensuring a great cardiovascular workout within a framework of competitive teamwork, Crazy Ball is a great way of letting teams blow off steam.

Invest in two Crazy Catches, a couple of Crazy Catch balls (or cricket balls depending on age group) and a dozen or so cones and you have a fantastic half hour of constructive enjoyment ahead.
